DIY – Foaming Hand Wash

Finding black handprints all over our walls and even on our ceilings drives me crazy and makes washing hands a priority in our house! I seriously wonder how many people have to clean their ceilings from their kids’ handprints?

I used to think that at age 15 I wouldn’t be finding Benni’s handprints on every wall but that hasn’t been the case at all. Part of the reason might be that Benni loves running his hands over any car he passes in the parking lot (he’s a very tactile kid) so every time we come inside it’s definitely time to wash hands!

For some reason washing hands has always been problematic. I have tried bar soaps but they ended up sailing through the air and eventually across the bath room floor. Regular hand soap gets put on his hands and then rinsed off without actually cleaning the hands. The only thing that really seems to work is foaming soap.

Benni likes foaming soap best because it feels good and it is fun to use. I like it because it makes him actually rub his hands together! I used to get our foaming soap from Whole Foods until I realized that I could easily make it myself and save a ton of money that way!

Here is how I do it:

  • Get a soap dispenser that has foaming ability
  • Fill the foaming bottle with 15-20% Shaklee Hand Wash Concentrate (our bottle actually has a line that marks how much hand wash concentrate to use which is very helpful)
  • Fill the remaining 80-85% with water
  • Put on the cap and shake it up!

We love Shaklee’s Hand Wash Concentrate because it feels very silky and smells great, it’s pH balanced and hypoallergenic and best of all – it lasts forever! You can order it from my Shaklee Shop HERE.

When Benni’s hands are really dirty, I ask him to sing ‘happy birthday’ and rub his hands until the song is over. We’ve sung happy birthday to the sink, the toilet – anything to get the job done! Hope this helps all Moms with equally curious and active children.

Sincerely,

Andrea
