DIY Deck Makeover

For the past couple of years, my husband Jack and I have been looking into replacing the current deck of our townhouse. With the dream of a beautiful new deck also came the realization that it could easily cost between $5,000 and $10,000. Considering we had several other projects in mind, we checked on alternatives. Maybe the deck could be repaired so we could enjoy it again?

Gardener’s promises the stain, a by-product of cheese-making to be non-toxic. According to their website, the stain is supposed to protect the wood from water, mildew, and UV damage. Exactly what we needed. It comes in four basic colors: moss green, graphite gray, lakeside cedar and cloud white. We decided on cloud white.

Jack volunteered to do the staining. After a quick trip to Home Depot for a brush and container, he set out to do his job. It took a couple of coats of the stain but over the course of two days our deck turned white…

… and we LOVED it! The stain seems protect the wood very well from rain and is easy to maintain.

So much that we decided to get new patio furniture!

These days, everyone is enjoying our new outdoor space and that is by far the best part! I wanted to share our experience with those of you who are looking for non-toxic ways to improve your home. If you found this helpful, please share it with a friend or family member who might find value in this as well!

Love,

Andrea
